What makes a good gift for a nurse
Nurses receive more "funny" gifts than any other profession, and most end up in the break-room cupboard. The ones that get kept share three traits: they are durable, they are small enough for a scrub pocket or a locker, and they carry no medical clip-art. Use that as your checklist and most of the novelty aisle disappears. What remains is what this collection stocks: watches with a clear dial, small leather and desk gifts, planners, and thank-you gifts such as candles and coasters.
By occasion
Nursing school graduation and the pinning ceremony ($100–$250)
The watch is the traditional pinning gift and still the most-given. Look for a bracelet rather than a strap (it can be wiped down between patients) and a dial that reads instantly: the Alfred Sung Serenity with a mother-of-pearl dial ($159), the Alfred Sung Octavia in green and gold ($135), or for a men's or unisex option the Alfred Sung Metropolitan Date ($139–$159). Water resistance varies by model and is listed on each product page. Under $100, the A5 leather journal cover and padfolio ($59.99) is a considered alternative.
Nurses Week, May 6–12 ($30–$60 each, in quantity)
Unit managers and hospital foundations buy the same item for the whole floor. The pieces that work at this price are the travertine candle ($54, four scents including unscented), the fluted candle ($57.80), Shoreline coasters ($33.80) and the slim leather card holder ($24.99). Send quantities and a delivery date through the bulk quote form and we confirm stock with the maker and ship to one address.
Preceptor, mentor and charge-nurse thank-yous ($25–$80)
For the nurse who trained you or who runs the schedule: a STIL A5 planner binder ($44) with an undated daily insert ($20), a slim leather card holder, or a leather passport holder ($39.99) for the travel nurse between contracts.
Retirement after decades on the floor ($150–$300)
Colleagues usually pool. The Alfred Sung Automatic III skeleton ($235) or Alfred Sung Automatic II ($249) is the keepsake; the resin-coated whisky glasses ($46) and a rain-drop charcuterie board ($98) dress the party. See the full retirement gifts edit.
What fits in a scrub pocket
Scrub pockets are shallow and get emptied a dozen times a shift. Gifts that survive: the slim leather card holder (holds an ID and two cards), the slim leather bifold wallet ($34.99), a capped pen like the Massete Venero rollerball ($79.97) that will not leak on a scrub top. Gifts that do not: anything with a clip that snags, anything glass, anything that needs a charger.
For nurse managers and foundations
If you are recognising a whole unit, the fastest route is to pick one item in the $30–$60 range and tell us the head count. We check the maker's stock, quote shipping to one address, and tell you whether gift notes can be included per parcel. Doctors' Day, Nurses Week and Certified Nurses Day (March 19) all fall in a busy spring window, so order three weeks out.
Shipping, gift notes and returns
Every item ships tracked directly from its maker. If you order pieces from more than one maker they will arrive as separate parcels, each with its own tracking number. A gift note can be added at checkout. Personalization and gift boxing depend on the maker and are noted on each product page; we never promise engraving we cannot deliver. Return terms are set per maker and shown at checkout. Import duties or taxes, where they apply, depend on the item and are either shown at checkout or billed by the carrier.
